NETIA HAS INCREASED ITS TRANSMISSION NETWORK CAPACITY
Netia owns one of the most extensive backbone data transmission networks in Poland. As a result of systematic investments in the latest DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) transmission technologies, which increase the transmission capabilities of a single fiber optic line, the operator incrementally increases the network capacity, using the same or decreased number of fiber optic lines.
In recent months, the following already existing functionalities such as Colorless (the so-called arbitrary color) and Directionless (arbitrary direction of transmission) were supplemented with Contentionless (increased network capacity) and Flexgrid (better processing of the network) functionalities, as well as GMPLS L1 (data switching protocol in the electrical layer). With such solutions, the customer can transmit signals at 250 Gb/s; it is also possible to create super optic channels with the bitrate of 1 Tb/s.
In addition, the amount of data that the main nodes of Netia network can receive has increased eightfold. At the same time, the use of optic bandwidth was optimized.
“The amount of traffic per one user of our network increases every year by around 30% on average. Such an increase is not challenging for us. We believe that our network capacity has to exceed the average. During rush hours, the traffic is incomparably higher – as a result of the increasing popularity of online videos, the amount of data transferred during peak time reaches higher and higher values, hence (among others) our recent investments,” – states Bartłomiej Zaremba, Director of Development and Network Management in Netia S.A.
“New solutions supplied by Nokia enable us to provide our services for the customers more quickly and protect us against breakdowns, including multiple ones and the breakdowns that occur within short intervals,” – says Bartłomiej Zaremba.
